As much as you say it’s unfair, these “edge cases” are not so on the edge but rapidly becoming a destructive segment of the “transgender” population, despite not actually being transgender. They’re not even doing it to invade women’s spaces (Yaniv aside) but often to escape their own problems. For those who encounter them, they taint trans identities because they are only “playing” at being trans. And people of both sexes do this, it’s just that my personal experience has been with men claiming to be trans women.

Either way, mentioning Yaniv and people like them in this context is important, because trans acceptance relies on good faith. Yaniv is not good faith and this should be pointed out because people like the GC below run with the idea that no one can be because of the Yanivs of the world. Plus, it makes it look like we’re demanding acceptance of the behavior Yaniv and other “false trans” people alongside those who truly need the acceptance, thus enabling the bad faith actors by constantly giving the appearance of defending them. This does even more harm to the trans community because it misleads everyone else about who and what transgender people are. Part of trans acceptance is also accepting that people will claim to be when they’re not, and showing that the Yanivs are not representative of the trans community as a whole.
